The Apple of My Eye

Say hello to my [not so little] friend.

Today when I arrived home from my mom's doctor appointments I was greeted by a beautiful brown UPS box... it nearly paralyzed me.  I'm not even joking, I started wheezing and I had to sit down; I was SO EXCITED.  I never wanted to become a "professional" photographer--I never planned to make a life out of this and I definitely never meant to invest so much moolah into it, but what can I say?  I'm hooked!  Needless to say, it was time to invest in a better camera.  As much as I love (and highly recommend) my Sony DSC-RX100, it is technically only a point-and-shoot camera, and there's no way I'm building a business with only that type of gear.  After quite a bit of research (and budget analysis!) I decided on the 60D, which also happens to be the same camera that my friend/mentor Yessenia uses for her shoots (which makes things nice and easy for us).  I'm so stoked to break it in this week and to test out its capabilities.  As I was opening the box I was having "flash-forwards" (as opposed to flashbacks) imagining all of the things I will learn and do in the next year with photography.  I'm scared and excited and nervous and elated all at once.

So naturally I did a photo shoot of my camera, as ironic as that sounds.  Welcome to the world, baby D!

My total haul!

(I don't know why, but when I first opened this silhouette image of the camera without any lens, the song "Farmer in the Dell" immediately popped into my head.  The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone, hi-ho the dairy-oh the cheese stands alone!)
