Amanda + Brent

I've "known" Amanda + Brent for about 8 years or so; we went to the same church during high school so we ended up attending the same youth groups.  I never got to know them personally but I knew of them and I continued to hear about them over the last few years as they got closer with my younger sister and her husband.  A little over a year ago I remember seeing their "Save the Date" on my sisters fridge and thinking, "Wow!  I didn't know they were getting married!  I wish I could go!"  Little did I know, I'd end up shooting the whole thing, and it would be my very first wedding!

Leading up to the wedding I read blogs, looked at photos from other photographers that were taken at their venue, and I watched about 50 youtube videos about how to prepare for shooting a wedding.  I had been practicing for quite a few months and I felt like I was ready.  I had an assistant lined up too, someone who had done more weddings in the past, but at the last minute she couldn't make it and I ended up shooting it all alone!  I was so nervous when I found out I'd be flying solo, but I rationalized that there was nothing I could do about it with less than 12 hours to go, so with a lot of prayer and comfort food I prepared as much as I could before heading to bed.

All in all, it was an incredibly successful day, from a photographer's standpoint.  I was nervous and could feel my heartbeat in my neck during the entire ceremony, but once that was over relief washed over me and I was able to enjoy the rest of the day.  And I got all the shots!  It was hard work (as it always is!) but there is something about shooting weddings--about capturing someone's happiest day of their life--that makes is so enjoyable.  Amanda and Brent, thank you SO much for giving me my first wedding opportunity (although I'm not even sure that you knew it at the time!), your wedding was a beautiful day and I was so grateful I was able to capture it all.
